The story behind “The beetle under the moon”

In 1901 Pablo Picasso painted “Una figura”, the painting with which he participated in a contest for young talents in Madrid. His work did not cause any impact because it was considered contrary to the conventions; the proportions were incorrect, it was not centered, further more, instead of portraying reality in detail, as was customary, the painting was more of a hazy, rough rendering, of a woman. Yet, the painting was acquired on the street by a Picasso specialist 50 years later, the transaction was made for a negligible value. Today, a century later, the painting is exhibited in the Reina Sofia Museum, in Madrid, and its value is so high, both monetary and historical, that it is incalculable.

Joan Miró, whose name guides both, “The F.T.M.T.M.I Digital Novel” and the protagonist of the story, also faced adversity in his life in the form of criticism and obstacles. Despite being one of the most influential painters in the history of art, Miró is still criticized by many specialists today. However, his fierce race to solve his shortcomings in terms of volume and shape, very important conventions back then, led him to create his own style. His creation catapulted him as a reference. Adversities then, might have not be a problem. Miró was never a detailed painter, like Dalí, a virtuous with a clean and precise technique. This, instead of sinking him, made him search in whatever he had inside himself, for a way out. His response is, without a doubt, an example of tenacity and creativity.

A project from the future

This project, “The F.T.M.T.M.I Digital Novel”, is the voice of resilience, of the ability to adapt to circumstances. So you hear that and go: “Ok, that sounds good, but…” Right? The implementation of these concepts often seems distant and fantastic, almost supernatural. The renunciation of the logical mind, the relinquishment of our conventional thought processes which artistic expression promulgates, is a solution that goes beyond the established parameters or the so-called "normality".

“Miró is still criticized by many specialists today. However, his fierce race to solve his shortcomings in terms of volume and shape, very important conventions back then, led him to create his own style”

Cristian found in art an answer to his search, a way to solve his constant failures and correct his mistakes. In other words, a specific method to adapt to circumstances without compromising. He used art, its relationship with the work of Miró and especially, “The Beetle under the Moon”, as a means to heal his own wounds. So now we do the same with the project. “The F.T.M.T.M.I Digital Novel” is not only disruptive because of its format and its content, but also because of its origins, a need to express the so much desired transformation in our world, through art.
